Heisann! And welcome to Nordesque.
My name is Amy Boxrud and I’m a writer/editor living in Northfield, Minnesota — a Scandinavian stronghold just south of the Twin Cities of Minneapolis and St. Paul. In my four years as editor of Sons of Norway’s Viking magazine, I was able to indulge my interest in all things Nordic. After moving on from my post at Viking, I knew I would miss my daily dose of Nordic culture, so I started this blog.
My heritage is equal parts Finnish and Norwegian, and the music, foods, and design of the Nordic countries have been part of my life for as long as I can remember. Today, there’s a whole lot of beauty coming out of (and inspired by) the region — from product design to rootsy music to new Nordic cuisine. I believe all this lovely creativity is worth noting, savoring, and sharing.
This project is, in part, a challenge to myself to bring a little more creativity and beauty into everyday life — an idea that’s also fundamental to Scandinavian design. I hope you enjoy reading Nordesque as much as I enjoy creating it!
